“Instead of looking at the past, I put myself ahead twenty years and try to look at what I need to do now in order to get there then.”

"When you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed."
— Michelle Obama
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
— Maya Angelou
Our founder, Desirree Potts, has expressed her passion for teaching others since she was 6 years old. Training was her forte while working for several Fortune 500 companies. However, it was at St. Petersburg College that Desirree discovered her passion for ESL instruction via an internship at a Seminole County School. The way the children responded to her instruction gave her a brand-new outlook on what she want to teach, and she knew the path she wanted to take.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies, Desirree ran a summer camp program in St. Petersburg, FL—College For Kids. She was able to reach numerous immigrant children and designed several activities that taught them how to utilize the English language successfully. Desirree taught at Berlitz Language Center, Harvest English Institute, LTC Language Solutions, and Open Heart Language Academy.
The purpose behind Desirree starting VDE LLC was to not only instruct individuals on the English language and culture, but to build a confidence amongst the immigrant and minority communities. She understands the difficulty that these groups have with the English language and the necessity of them learning the language to succeed in their life endeavors.
Desirree is earning her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Educational Technology at the University of South Florida. She is simultaneously working on graduate certificates in Web Design and eLearning & Design. Desirree teaches English Language Arts (ELA) to middle school students with learning differences and challenges. In the future she would love to earn the role of U.S. Secretary of Education.
